Job description

Civils Supervisor / Clerk of Works

Infrastructure (Roads and Sewers) - Trowbridge, Wiltshire

Our client has been providing independent site inspection services since 1997, delivering flexible, evidence-led Clerk of Works and NEC Supervisor input across a wide range of construction projects.

Over more than 20 years, they have consistently added value by identifying issues during construction that may otherwise have gone unnoticed, including the use of sub-standard materials, departures from accepted good practice, and workmanship or coordination issues that could result in future maintenance liabilities or additional cost.

They are now seeking an experienced Clerk of Works / NEC Supervisor to support a major infrastructure project in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, focused on roads, drainage and associated civils works.

The Appointment:

  • Start: February (approx.)
  • Duration: Circa 3 years (subject to programme and phasing)
  • Commitment: 2 days per week (with some flexibility to increase during key stages if required)
  • Status: Part-time, client-side site inspection role

There may be opportunities for additional work on other regional infrastructure projects as the scheme progresses.

The Role

The successful candidate will act as the client's independent eyes and ears on site, providing assurance that works are being carried out in accordance with the contract documentation and relevant standards.

Typical duties will include:

  • Monitoring construction activities and site resources.
  • Verifying compliance with drawings, specifications, ITPs and contract requirements.
  • Inspecting the quality of workmanship for highways, drainage and associated civils works.
  • Monitoring progress against the contractor's programme and highlighting variance.
  • Witnessing key hold points and tests where required.
  • Recording observations, defects and non-conformances.
  • Producing clear, factual weekly site inspection reports.
  • Attending periodic progress meetings as required.

You Must:

  • Have relevant experience in highways, drainage and infrastructure works.
  • Hold a valid CSCS card.
  • Have your own means of travel.
  • Be comfortable working independently in a client-facing role.
  • Be computer literate, with experience producing structured reports (Microsoft Office or similar).
  • Ideally be ICWCI registered or a member/fellow of an equivalent professional body (or working towards) but not essential.

What's Provided:

  • Full induction and in-house training.
  • Ongoing technical and professional support.
  • Insurance cover under company policies.
  • Branded PPE (hard hat and hi-vis).
  • The opportunity to build continuity on a long-term infrastructure project.
  • £280 per day (part-time engagement).
