Job description

A leading structural steel contractor is seeking a Steelwork Connection Designer to work closely with structural engineers, Tekla detailers, fabrication teams, and clients to design practical and efficient connection solutions on major schemes.

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000 per annum (DOE)
Locations: Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, Durham, Scarborough, West Yorkshire, Dorset
Working Arrangement: Office-based / Hybrid (with remote options considered depending on proximity to office hubs)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design structural steel connections in accordance with Eurocodes and British Standards.
  • Produce comprehensive connection calculations and supporting technical documentation.
  • Liaise with structural engineers, clients, detailers, and fabrication teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review engineer design drawings and develop practical, highly cost-effective connection solutions.
  • Support detailing teams with connection-related technical queries and design software checks.
  • Ensure all connection designs are optimized for both fabrication and erection requirements.
  • Work to programme deadlines while maintaining exceptional levels of technical accuracy.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in structural steel connection design (contractor or specialist consultancy-side).
  • Strong understanding of Eurocodes, British Standards, and structural steel design principles.
  • High level of proficiency using relevant design software (e.g., IDEA StatiCa, Tekla Tedds, MasterSeries, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes on site.
  • Strong communication, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
