Job description
A leading specialist roofing and cladding contractor is currently looking for a permanent Quantity Surveyor in Essex. The business delivers fully supported hard metal roofing and cladding for commercial and residential properties in the UK and overseas, and has a substantial flat roofing division. Working with the Commercial team, you will manage, report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects, working closely with departments from Design through to Procurement to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the highest levels of customer satisfaction. This role would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to further develop their career within the roofing and cladding industry.

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum

Location: EssexDuties:
- Work with the surveying team to organise and create applications for payment, variations, etc.
- Produce cost reports and regular, accurate reconciliations and forecasting
- Track monthly application figures and ensure relevant departments are aware of potential budgets and financial constraints
- Where required, prepare and issue Early Warning Notices, Extension of Time requests and other project-specific contractual requirements
- Review labour schedules and compare them to progress on site
- Keep chronological records of site progress and use this information when submitting payment applications
- Price variations and changes in line with subcontract parameters
- Review drawings and compare construction drawings to tender drawings, noting any changes
- Develop and foster collaborative working relationships with the client, client representatives and supply chain
- Visit site to check and record progress, transfer it onto monthly payment applications, and record/action any changes to the agreed contract scope
- Manage several subcontractors and contractors
- Compile sub-subcontract orders, including enquiry and pricing documentation, and carry out general subcontract procurement
- Make timely submissions in accordance with contract requirements to maximise profit and cash flow
- Identify risks and make recommendations on how they can be overcome
- Stay aware of contractual matters to protect the company's position at all times
- Assist and manage junior staff members
Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years' Quantity Surveying experience, ideally with some experience in a façade, external envelope or flat roofing role
- Degree qualification (2:1 or above)
- Full driving licence
- An in-depth general understanding of construction sub-contracts (e.g. JCT Design and Build, NEC3) - mainly NEC
- Highly organised
- Good and clear communication skills
- Ability to use a range of IT packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke packages (Essential)
- Relationship-building skills (Essential)
- Self-motivated, with a proactive interest in commercial awareness (Essential)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (Essential)
- Ability to apply learned skills internally, externally and with the supply chain (Essential)
- A positive attitude and the ability to integrate and play an active part in the construction team (Essential)
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise to meet deadlines (Essential)
- Keen to pursue personal development needs, including CPD courses to broaden understanding of the industry (Essential)
- Ability to assist and manage junior staff members (Essential)
- CSCS card (ideal but not a necessity)
- Ability to use Microsoft Project to assist with programme updates in line with delays (preferred)
