Job description

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a medium-sized Principal Contractor with an expanding portfolio. The company undertake fit-out, construction and refurbishment projects for a wide range of clients, including the Royal Opera House, Chelsea Football Club and many other prestigious organisations, along with traditional architects and consultants. Their sectors of work include industrial, healthcare, education, refurbishment & new build, all in the commercial environment.

THE ROLE:

  • Working alongside their existing team on projects in the £50k to £4M range, this is a varied, challenging and exciting position combining both a pre-contract tendering role and post-contract commercial management duties.
  • Formulating tender packages by undertaking site visits and surveys, helping identify potential hazards and/or difficulties in undertaking required works. Also identifying opportunities to VE works to reduce clients expenditure while maximising the companies profitability.
  • Assist in managing and controlling project risk, including identifying possible risk factors and making recommendations to all parties by utilising Contractors Design proposals at tender returns. Ensuring that risk elements on secured projects are effectively managed through avoidance, mitigation and/or transference as appropriate.
  • Assist in formulating and pricing simple schedules of work, Bills of Quantities and/or specifications based on information obtained from site visits and the Client's brief.
  • Breaking projects down into specialist trade contractor and/or material supply packages, and subsequently obtaining supplier quotations to supply/undertake, undertaking tender analyses and making recommendations as to suppliers to be used.
  • Cash flow forecasting for secured projects.
  • The position combines office and site-based roles.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A formal construction/surveying qualification is desirable. Funded further education will be considered for the right candidate.
  • A sound knowledge of construction processes and methodologies.
  • A good communicator who can develop successful relationships with clients and suppliers.
