Job description
Overview
We are currently seeking an M&E Business Development Manager in Manchester, covering the North-West and Yorkshire regions, to help grow a high-performing engineering division delivering mechanical and electrical building services across the UK.
This is a senior, client-facing role for someone who enjoys opening doors, building long-term relationships, and shaping opportunities from early conversation through to tender and award. You'll be working with a contractor recognised for its mechanical, plumbing and electrical capability, supporting clients as both a principal contractor and supply chain partner.
About the Company
Our client is a major UK contractor with a strong in-house engineering capability, delivering building services solutions from design and procurement through to installation, commissioning and ongoing aftercare.
The engineering team operates across a broad range of sectors and is actively supporting programmes focused on modernisation and decarbonisation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Developing and maintaining a healthy pipeline of M&E engineering opportunities
- Building relationships with key decision-makers, consultants, and framework stakeholders
- Supporting bid strategy alongside pre-construction, estimating, and operational teams
- Identifying where the business can add value early (scope, programme, delivery approach)
- Leading client meetings, presenting capability, and managing the process through to tender
- Tracking activity through CRM and providing clear pipeline updates and forecasts
- Working closely with internal teams to ensure opportunities are pursued selectively and well
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in business development within building services, M&E, engineering, or construction
- Strong network and confidence engaging at senior client and consultant level
- Solid understanding of how M&E tenders and pre-con processes work (from early engagement to award)
- Commercial awareness and the ability to position solutions clearly and credibly
- Organised approach to pipeline management, reporting, and follow-up
- Full UK driving licence (travel will be required)
Benefits
- Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 depending on experience
- Bonus scheme and benefits package
- Senior role with influence over strategy and pipeline
- Strong platform, recognised engineering capability, and long-term opportunity
