We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator with a strong background in both the electric vehicle charging and solar PV markets. This key role will support the continued growth of GC Energy Solutions by developing accurate and commercially competitive estimates and proposals for our clients.
You will work closely with field-based surveyors and project managers to collect accurate site data, collaborate with our in-house design team, and produce detailed and professional proposals for clients. This is a home-based role, with a requirement to attend our London office once per week and visit project sites across the UK as needed.
This position is part of the divisional leadership team, offering the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of our estimating and proposal process, while contributing to the wider success of the division.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with field-based teams (surveyors and project managers) to gather and verify site-specific information.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and formal client proposals for EV charging and solar PV installations.
- Interpret and work with CAD drawings and liaise with the internal design team to ensure alignment between designs and estimates.
- Ensure proposals are technically compliant with relevant regulations and aligned with client requirements and project objectives.
- Conduct site visits across the UK to validate survey data and support bid development.
- Work with the supply chain and subcontractors to obtain quotations and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Stay up-to-date with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements including BS 7671 and the IET Code of Practice for EV Charging Equipment Installation.
- Support internal stakeholders with pricing strategies, risk assessments, and project planning input.
- Lead or contribute to internal estimating process improvements and innovations.
- Participate in and contribute to divisional leadership meetings and business growth strategies.
Key Requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience as an estimator in the EV charging infrastructure and solar PV sectors.
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation and/or City & Guilds 2921.
- Hold BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) qualification.
- In-depth knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations and the IET Code of Practice for EV Charging Equipment Installation.
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles, system layouts, and CAD drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, estimating software, and CAD tools.
- Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
Desirable:
- Experience in the civils and utilities sector.
- Project management or site experience in delivering electrical infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with industry-specific estimating software such as Trimble, Bluebeam, or similar.
- Knowledge of commercial and public sector procurement processes.
