Job description

The Opportunity

Our client is an award-winning electrical contractor based in the North West with a strong in-house design capability and a track record of delivering across a broad range of sectors. They are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their design team on a permanent basis, working out of their Ashton-under-Lyne office.

This is a well-established design function with a varied workload, and the role offers genuine technical breadth across project types. For someone who wants to be involved from early design stages through to site completion, it is a solid opportunity with a contractor that has built a real reputation.

About the Business

Founded in 2010, our client has grown consistently and is now recognised as one of the North West's fastest-growing electrical contractors, delivering design and build packages across healthcare, education, commercial, pharmaceutical, rail, industrial and leisure sectors. They operate a 24/7 model, hold full industry accreditation including NICEIC approval, and put a genuine emphasis on quality at every stage of the project.

The business has a strong culture of developing people from within - their apprenticeship programme has produced over 18 qualified electricians to date - and the in-house design team sits at the centre of how they win and deliver work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Producing electrical design drawings, schematics and specifications for building services packages
  • Carrying out lighting calculations, power distribution design and cable sizing
  • Supporting design and build tenders with technical input and design deliverables
  • Coordinating with project managers, mechanical engineers and main contractors
  • Attending site visits and design meetings as required
  • Ensuring all designs comply with BS 7671 (18th Edition) and relevant British Standards
  • Reviewing and commenting on third-party design submissions

What We're Looking For

  • Proven background in electrical design within a building services or M&E contracting environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one design calculation package such as Amtech, Trimble, Dialux or Relux
  • HNC, HND or degree-level qualification in electrical engineering or building services
  • Up-to-date knowledge of BS 7671 and relevant British Standards
  • Confident communicator, comfortable working with clients, consultants and site teams
  • Comfortable working across a varied mix of project types and sectors

What's on Offer

  • Salary of £60,000 - £70,000 depending on experience
  • Company benefits package
  • Permanent, full-time position with a growing contractor
  • Varied project portfolio spanning multiple sectors
