Job description
The Opportunity
If you're an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor ready to step up into a management role, or already operating at Managing QS level and looking for a business with genuine depth behind it, this is worth a look.
Our client is a long-established, family-owned M&E building services contractor with a strong presence across the North West. Operating from their Warrington base, they deliver mechanical and electrical engineering across a broad mix of sectors, with the capability to take projects from initial design through to installation and ongoing maintenance. It's a business with real infrastructure, a serious client portfolio and a track record that speaks for itself.
This is a senior commercial appointment. You'll lead the QS function, manage the output of the commercial team and hold full responsibility for cost management across a portfolio of M&E contracts.
About the Business
Founded in the 1950s and still family-run, this is a business that has grown steadily and carefully across seven decades. They now operate across the UK and Ireland, covering the full M&E spectrum from design and off-site fabrication through to installation and maintenance.
Their sector spread is broad: commercial, education, health, hospitality, pharmaceutical and public sector, among others. Accreditations include ISO 9001:2015, NICEIC, ECA and Constructionline, alongside strong health and safety credentials. The Warrington office was established to serve a growing North West client base and has gone from strength to strength.
For a senior commercial professional, what stands out is the variety and the stability. This is a business that retains people for the long term, maintains serious client relationships and has the pipeline to keep things interesting.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the commercial function from the Warrington office, managing and mentoring a team of QS professionals
- Taking overall responsibility for cost management across a portfolio of M&E design, installation and maintenance contracts
- Overseeing the preparation and submission of applications for payment, valuations and final accounts
- Managing subcontract procurement, letting, and commercial administration from award through to close-out
- Preparing and presenting CVRs and cost-to-completion forecasts to senior management
- Driving robust variation and change control processes across the team
- Supporting pre-construction and bid activity with commercial input at tender stage
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners
- Contributing to the strategic development of the commercial function as the business continues to grow
What We're Looking For
- Solid M&E contracting background with experience across both project and maintenance/FM contracts
- Previous experience managing or mentoring a commercial team, or a clear track record that demonstrates readiness to do so
- Confident handling the full commercial cycle independently, from pre-award through to final account
- Sound knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract forms
- Strong on variation management, cost reporting, subcontract administration and CVR preparation
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at senior level
What's on Offer
- £70,000 - £80,000 depending on experience
- Full company benefits package
- A senior role with real scope and commercial ownership
- A varied portfolio spanning complex, technically demanding sectors
- A stable, family-run business with a genuine long-term outlook and strong North West pipeline
